Bullerjan® ChimCat® catalytic converter
For further improvements of the emission values and for more effective heating, the Bullerjan models B², B² flex and B³ Keramik can be equipped optionally with a ChimCat catalytic converter. When used, the catalyst module is inserted in place of the otherwise standard heating gas baffle plate. The design of the catalyst module reduces emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulate matter by up to 90%.
The ChimCat® catalytic converter safely and sustainably reduces environmentally harmful emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. Particulate matter is effectively filtered out of the exhaust gases and, thanks to the very high temperature in the catalyst module, is post-combusted without leaving any residues.
How the ChimCat® catalytic converter works

How the ChimCat® catalytic converter works
The catalyst module consists of three catalyst cassettes, which are arranged one above the other and through which the exhaust gases flow. The catalyst cassettes themselves contain a ceramic bulk material which is catalytically coated with precious metals.
The catalytic coating lowers the activation energy of the oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water.
This means that these reactions take place faster than at a comparable temperature without a catalytic converter. As a result, emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons, which are harmful to the environment, are reduced sustainably and safely. The bulk material in the catalyst cassettes also serves as a filter. Most of the dust produced during wood combustion consists of unburned carbon (soot). This is retained by the filter effect of the cassettes and burned off without residue due to the very high temperature in the catalyst module. In this way, the catalyst module also sustainably and safely reduces emissions of particulate matter.
The catalytic converter itself requires little maintenance. However, it should be cleaned regularly to remove any residues (ash). To do this, remove the front cover plate and pull the catalyst module out of the furnace. The cassettes can be easily removed from the module and cleaned of any residues with a brush or an ash vacuum cleaner.
